Taiwan reported 28,513 new local cases of COVID-19 on Monday.
New Taipei City reported the most new cases, with 5,651 people there testing positive. Taichung City saw the second most with 3,656, followed by Taipei City with 3,248.
Another 56 people have died from COVID-19. Over two-thirds were aged 70 and above, and less than a third had taken three doses of a COVID vaccine.
Authorities say another 122 people are suffering from moderate to severe symptoms of the disease.
Taiwan also recorded 272 imported cases of COVID-19 on Friday.
