Saint Vincent and the Grenadines (SVG), Taiwan’s important ally in the Caribbean, was hard hit by the volcanic eruption in April and the whole island was blanketed in a layer of ash causing the displacement of 20,000 people out of the population of 111,000. Ambassador Andrea Bowman, Ambassador of Saint Vincent and the Grenadines (SVG) said she is thankful to the international community and Taiwan for lending a hand during times of difficulties by sending relief goods and donating cash. In Taiwan alone, when the volcanic eruption relief drive was launched in in May, Ambassador Andrea Bowman said the Embassy has collected a donation of $ 600,000 NTD (around $ 21,000 USD). She added that the SVG government has tried hard to get back to normalcy battling so much at this time with the volcanic eruptions in Saint Vincent in April, Hurricane Elsa in July, dengue fever and now COVID-19.
