The Ministry of Labor announced Friday that it will relax regulations that prevent foreign workers from changing their profession.
Current rules allow foreign workers to change employers, but require that they remain in the same line of work. However, there have been instances of foreign workers falling victim to sexual assault, sexual harassment, violence, or human trafficking while working in Taiwan. Some of these workers have expressed a desire to change their professions entirely.
The new regulations will give foreign workers in Taiwan the right to change jobs granted to all other workers in Taiwan.
