Taiwan is hosting an APEC conference on illegal drugs and drug inspection methods.
Over 150 experts and representatives are in Taiwan for the two-day event, which opens Tuesday.
An important focus of the event is the rise of so-called new psychoactive substances in recent years. These substances have made the work of controlling and detecting illegal drugs more difficult.
The event will give attendees a chance to exchange information about these new psychoactive substances as well as on technologies used to detect illegal drugs. Taiwan’s Food and Drug Administration says the conference will help strengthen Taiwan’s ability to detect drugs, protect the health of its people, and ensure the safety of medicines.
