Professor Kuo Lin-hsin has called on media outlets to provide more in-depth coverage of environmental issues. Kuo currently heads the College of Communication at National Chengchi University.

A recent report from Germanwatch, a Germany-based environmental group, shows that Taiwan ranks 53rd among 56 countries in terms of how effectively it is reducing carbon emissions. Kuo, along with students from Chengchi University initiated a campaign calling on the public and media to pay more attention to environmental issues such as this.

During a press conference Thursday, Kuo said he hopes people in Taiwan will realize that environmental issues are more pressing than the upcoming presidential election. Kuo said that Taiwan’s industries have long been producing significant amounts of pollutants, including carbon dioxide and carbon monoxide. He called on local media outlets to allot more time for reporting on these issues to the public.
