Foreign Minister Joseph Wu says implementing universal suffrage is the key to solving the problem facing Hong Kong. Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Joanne Ou Tuesday relayed Wu’s message.
Ou said Taiwan will stand firm in its support for Hong Kong people’s pursuit of freedom, democracy and human rights. Ou also said the government is deeply concerned about Hong Kong’s instability and police brutality and it finds the current stand-off regrettable.
Hong Kong Polytechnic University (PolyU) has seen violent clashes between protestors and the police on its campus over the past few days.
Foreign Minister Joseph Wu Tuesday condemned the Hong Kong government in his tweet. He wrote: “the most appalling scenes in Hong Kong! During the siege of PolyU, doctors, nurses & EMT staff were detained with hands tied behind backs. This is absolutely unacceptable!”
