The annual US Business Day is once again under way in Taipei.
More than 170 local manufacturers and over 20 US businesses participated in the partially-virtual event, which kicked off Thursday. The event is jointly sponsored by the economics ministry and the Taiwan External Trade Development Council (TAITRA).
American Institute in Taiwan Director William Brent Christensen attended the event in person. He said that US Business Day is a good way to deepen bilateral economic ties.
Meanwhile, in a video, US Under Secretary of Commerce for International Trade, Joseph Semsar called Taiwan a reliable partner in a rapidly changing world.
TAITRA Chairman James Huang said that Taiwan’s exports to the US in the areas of information and communication technology, mechanical products, and sports equipment have all jumped this year. Huang said while the global economy has taken a hit due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the US has become one of Taiwan’s fastest-growing export markets.
