Minister without Portfolio Audrey Tang has shared Taiwan’s experience with disease prevention during a forum organized by Dutch think tank, the Clingendael Institute.
Tang said Taiwan uses an open and transparent digital approach, encouraging citizens to share information related to the pandemic. She said Taiwan’s disease prevention hotline received more than two million calls from citizens last year alone.
Tang also noted the successful mask rationing system Taiwan adopted during last year’s shortage. She said the system, which allocated masks to people using their legal name, enabled greater transparency in government procurement and distribution of masks through traceable data.
Lastly, Tang explained the importance of digitization and digital infrastructure. Tang said Taiwan’s experience is applicable to other countries, and that Taiwan hopes to share this experience with democracies worldwide.
