
Taiwanese weightlifter Chen Wen-huei won Taiwan’s sixth medal at the Tokyo Olympics. She won the bronze in the women’s 64kg weight class, taking the second medal in weightlifting for Taiwan on Tuesday.
The 24-year-old had a combined lift of 230 kilograms - 103 kg. in the snatch and 127 kg. in the clean and jerk.
This is Chen’s first time at the Olympics. She had won three gold medals at the Asian Weightlifting Championships in Uzbekistan earlier this year
Chen’s win comes after Taiwanese weightlifter Kuo Hsing-chun won Taiwan’s first gold at the Tokyo Olympics. Kuo also set three Olympic records in the women's 59kg weight class.
The 27-year-old Kuo won with a combined lift of 236 kilograms - 103 kg. in the snatch and 133 kg. in the clean and jerk, setting an Olympic record with each score.
Taiwan now has six medals - one gold, two silver and three bronze medals in Tokyo. It is currently ranked 12th worldwide in the number of medals at the Tokyo Olympics.
Taiwan also won silver in men’s archery and men’s judo and bronzes in mixed table tennis and women’s Taekwondo.
Weightlifting is one of Taiwan’s top Olympic sports. It has won ten Olympic medals in weightlifting.
The country has also won nine medals in Taekwondo since 2000, when the sport became a part of the Olympic Games.
Taiwan has 68 athletes competing in 18 events at the Tokyo Olympics.
