It's time to celebrate the harvest with song and dance in the town of Chishang in Taitung. Chishang is hosting the annual Autumn Rice Harvest Arts Festival with the opening performances held last weekend and the final shows on November 27 and 28.
The stars of the performances are the popular singer 9m88 (also known as Joanne Baba) and the world-renowned Cloud Gate Dance Theatre. The performance, called Thirteen Tongues, included an interesting mix of jazz, street sounds, and modern dance.
The artistic director of Cloud Gate Cheng Tsung Lung says that the performance is meant to use traditional sounds, movements, and songs to tell a story of transformation. The singer 9m88 says that it has been a rare opportunity for her to create something so fresh and innovative with Cloud Gate.
Cloud Gate and 9m88 even brought children from the local school onstage to sing with them at the end. For people who can't go to see this spectacular performance when it returns at the end of November, there's no need for disappointment. The show will be available via an online broadcast, which is sure to amaze audiences both near and far.
