Taiwan has been invited to take part in a virtual Summit for Democracy to be hosted by US President Joe Biden next month. Digital Minister Audrey Tang and Taiwan’s envoy to the US Hsiao Bi-khim have been tapped to represent Taiwan during the event.
The summit is scheduled to take place from December 9-10, and will focus on the challenges and opportunities facing the world’s democracies.
On Thursday, Foreign Minister Joseph Wu called Taiwan’s invitation to take part in the event an acknowledgement of Taiwan’s democratic achievements. He said he hopes that Tang and Hsiao will showcase these achievements to the world during the event, while also showing the world ways of using technology to defend democracy.
