
Taiwan reported 56,339 new local cases of COVID-19 on Tuesday. 115 more people have died.
Southern and central Taiwan continue to be the center of the outbreak. Taichung is a hotspot for the virus. 8,341 people have new cases of COVID there. Kaohsiung is also dealing with a high number of infections, as is New Taipei.
Another 115 people have died from COVID-19. Their ages ranged from over 30 years old to 90 years old. Almost all of them had a history of chronic illness, and over half had not received three doses of a COVID vaccine.
Out of the 56,339 people confirmed with COVID on Tuesday, 209 have moderate or severe symptoms.
Taiwan also recorded 65 imported cases of COVID-19 on Tuesday.
