A delegation of Taiwanese lawmakers led by Legislative Speaker You Si-kun is visiting Central Europe and Lithuania. On Thursday, the group traveled to Lithuania via Poland, after concluding a four-day visit to the Czech Republic.
While in the Czech Republic, You Si-kun met with Markéta Pekarová Adamová, the leader of the Czech parliament’s lower house. During the meeting, Adamová said the new Czech government sees working with Taiwan as a part of its policy agenda.
During a flight transfer in Poland, the Taiwanese group met with Waldemar Andzel. The Polish lawmaker chairs the Polish-Taiwanese Parliamentarian Group and sits on the Polish legislature’s special forces and defense committees.
Taiwan’s delegation leader You says Poland is leading the way in helping Ukraine to fight back against the Russian invasion. Warsaw, he says, is also encouraging other countries to help Ukraine and resist Russia. You invited Andzel to visit Taiwan.
Finally, in Lithuania, the Taiwanese delegation met with Viktorija Čmilytė-Nielsen, the speaker of the Lithuanian parliament, on Thursday. The group will meet other Lithuanian parliamentarians and officials and visit places that commemorate Lithuania’s struggle for democracy. They leave on Saturday.
