Taiwanese lawmakers plan US visit in mid-September
Capitol Hill, Washington D.C.

A group of Taiwanese lawmakers will visit the United States in mid-September. It will be the first time that has happened since 2020.

The delegation, led by opposition lawmaker Chen I-hsin, will visit Capitol Hill in Washington D.C. There they’ll meet with US members of Congress, as well as officials in the Biden administration.

Chen says the visit is a routine trip that is necessary for fostering closer US-Taiwan ties. He says that lawmakers made regular visits to the United States in the past. But over the past two years, the COVID-19 pandemic has kept them away.

The delegation will be made up of eight to ten members of Taiwan’s legislature from different political parties.

Their itinerary is currently being arranged by Taiwan’s representative office in the United States and the American Institute in Taiwan.
