Taiwan reported 34,389 new local cases of COVID-19 on Wednesday.
More than a fifth of the people with new cases of COVID are from New Taipei, with 7,607 people there testing positive. Another 4,332 have the disease in Taipei, followed by 4,100 in Taichung.
Another 21 people have died from COVID-19. Most were over the age of 80, and only a third had taken three doses of a COVID vaccine.
Authorities say another 132 people are suffering from moderate or severe symptoms of the disease.
Taiwan also recorded 234 imported cases of COVID-19 on Wednesday.
