
The Foreign Ministry says Taiwan's relations with the US will not change following the US midterm elections. The ministry says US congressional support for Taiwan has been long-standing and bipartisan.
The ministry says the Taiwan Policy Act of 2022 did not clear this year before the US congressional changeover. The act seeks to promote Taiwan's security, ensures regional stability, and deters China's aggression against Taiwan. The ministry says it will continue to promote the bill and garner support for the US legislation in the new congressional term.
Foreign ministry official Jason Ma (馬博元) says the ministry will continue to communicate with US legislators across the political spectrum to ensure bipartisan support for Taiwan. Ma says a deeper understanding of US-Taiwan relations by the US lawmakers will strengthen Taiwan's security and promote friendly exchanges.
The ministry reiterates that Taiwan and the US are close economic and security partners. It also says the US has clearly demonstrated bipartisan support for Taiwan in the past two years.
