Taiwan welcomes St. Lucia Prime Minister for first state visit
St. Lucia Prime Minister Philip J. Pierre meets with Taiwan's Foreign Minister Joseph Wu.

St. Lucia Prime Minister Philip J. Pierre arrived in Taiwan on Monday for a five day visit. The visit is Pierre’s first to Taiwan since becoming Prime Minister last year.

Taiwan’s Foreign Ministry announced the visit in a statement on Sunday that said Pierre was invited by the Taiwanese government. He was met by Foreign Minister Joseph Wu (吳釗燮) at Taipei’s Taoyuan airport.

For his first visit, Pierre will be welcomed by President Tsai Ing-wen (蔡英文) with a military salute and state banquet. He is also expected to meet Premier Su Tseng-chang (蘇貞昌) and several other high-level officials.

Pierre is being accompanied by a delegation of five government officials and business representatives. The delegates will seek to strengthen cooperation with Taiwan, which has had friendly relations with St. Lucia since 2007.
