President Tsai Ing-wen (蔡英文) says building a more resilient supply chain cannot be delayed. Tsai spoke on Tuesday at the opening ceremony for Computex Taipei 2023, an international trade show for information and communication technology.

The president says Taiwan’s strength in high-tech industries and its efforts to protect intellectual property demonstrates to the world that Taiwan is a trustworthy partner. Tsai says Taiwan’s high-tech industries play an important role in the global supply chain. She adds that democratic countries must work together to build a safer and more resilient global supply chain in the face of growing authoritarianism.

Tsai also notes that the trade show is the largest of its kind in Asia and the second largest globally. She adds that the event features business vendors from 26 different countries, and Taiwan is showing the world the most advanced technology in the semiconductor industry.

The trade show will run from Tuesday to Friday this week at the Taipei Nangang Exhibition Center. The event was put on hold for three years due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
