The Central Weather Administration (CWA) issued a cold surge advisory on Monday, warning the public not to be fooled by the day’s sunny weather. It reported that temperatures will start plummeting Monday night and reminded everyone to dress warmly.

The CWA expects the cold surge to last until Tuesday morning, saying that a radiative cooling effect is the reason for the dramatic temperature difference between daytime and nighttime temperatures.

According to the CWA, Hsinchu County and Miaoli County may experience temperature lows of below 6°C. Except for Chiayi City, Taipei City, and Keelung City, Tainan City, Chiayi County, along with other cities and counties northwards of Taiwan may experience temperatures 10°C or lower. Kinmen County in the outlying island may also experience similar temperatures of 10°C or lower as well.
