Taiwan’s Matsu Coast Guard has dispatched ships to assist in search and rescue efforts for a Chinese fisherman who went missing on Thursday after falling overboard near Matsu Island. This incident happened the same day another Chinese vessel, the Minlongyu 61222, capsized near the Kinmen Islands.

The Min Long Yu 61222’s earlier accident near Dongding Island of Kinmen prompted an immediate rescue mission by Taiwan’s Coast Guard Administration. Of the six crew members, two crew members have been rescued, two are still missing, and two individuals have been confirmed dead.

In the second incident on Thursday, the Chinese fisherman fell off the boat approximately three nautical miles east of Matsu’s Beigan Island. The Matsu Coast Guard received notification from the Lienchiang County government today on Friday at 12:30 a.m.

Matsu Coast Guard Captain Hung Wen-chuan (洪文泉) stated that upon receiving the notification from the Lienchiang County Development Department, they dispatched ships to the vicinity of the incident. Following search and rescue protocols, they plan to commence a 72-hour joint search operation.
