
On Thursday, President Tsai Ing-wen (蔡英文) met with a U.S. congressional delegation led by the Chairman of the House Subcommittee on Intelligence and Special Operations Jack Bergman. Tsai expressed hope for deepening the Taiwan-U.S. partnership and expanding cooperation among democratic nations to contribute more to global security and prosperity.
During her remarks, President Tsai thanked the bipartisan delegation for demonstrating U.S. cross-party support for Taiwan through their visit. She also expressed gratitude for U.S. assistance in enhancing Taiwan's self-defense capabilities as Taiwan continues to implement defense self-reliance and promote domestic production of aircraft and naval vessels, showcasing its determination to safeguard democracy and freedom.
Bergman highlighted that Taiwan is a key U.S. partner in the Indo-Pacific region, with close cooperation in security and economic ties. He said that the delegation's visit aims to demonstrate congressional support for the Taiwan-U.S. partnership and that he will continue persuading colleagues in Congress of the strategic importance of this relationship for the region. Bergman stated that the U.S. hopes Taiwan will have a robust maritime strategy and looks forward to joint efforts with Taiwan to counter China's aggression in the region.
