Taiwan has achieved a significant milestone in its agricultural trade as it begins exporting fresh pineapples to New Zealand. This new trade development was announced by the Agriculture Ministry on Tuesday.

The ministry revealed that an export project received approval during a recent meeting under the Agreement between New Zealand and the Separate Customs Territory of Taiwan on Economic Cooperation (ANZTEC). With this approval, Taiwan's fresh pineapples can immediately enter the New Zealand market.

Since 2017, Taiwan has diligently prepared documents detailing the cultivation methods, pest control measures, postharvest treatments, and export histories of its pineapples. After eight years of discussions, New Zealand has finally green lighted the export. The ministry stresses the importance of systematic management for all exported pineapples, ensuring that the entire export process—from production to harvest, processing, and logistics—is fully traceable. Furthermore, educational training sessions will be conducted before each export season.

In addition to New Zealand, Taiwanese pineapples have already found their way to markets in Canada, Japan, Australia, and other regions worldwide.

Recognized for its rich aroma and succulent taste, the Taiwanese pineapple stands as the country's most valuable export fruit, cherished both domestically and abroad. Taiwan boasts a variety of pineapple cultivars, allowing farmers to cultivate the fruit throughout the year in diverse locations.
