Taiwan’s President-elect Lai Ching-te (賴清德) announced foreign affairs, defense, and security positions for his Cabinet on Thursday. Presidential Office Secretary-General Lin Chia-lung (林佳龍) is set to be the new foreign minister.
Lai pointed out that Lin’s experiences in both domestic affairs and international cooperation inform his new post as Taiwan’s upcoming foreign minister. Previously, Lin served as transport minister, and mayor of Taichung, and was ambassador-at-large for Taiwan's digital New Southbound Policy initiatives.
Lin says Taiwan’s efforts in diplomacy will focus on collaborating with like-minded nations with shared values of democracy. He says another emphasis is on economic and trade cooperation with international partners. Lin expresses gratitude for Lai’s appointment and says he will do his utmost as foreign minister.
