The Taipei City Government announced on Monday that Mayor Chiang Wan-an (蔣萬安) will be attending the SusHi Tech Tokyo 2024 City Leaders Program while visiting Japan May 15-18. Chiang will deliver a speech on safe city construction at the event to highlight Taipei’s safeguards against earthquakes and natural disasters.

Tokyo Governor Yuriko Koike personally invited Chiang to attend the event during her visit to Taiwan in February this year. Over 40 city leaders from 5 continents will be in attendance at the City Leaders Program, one of SusHi Tech Tokyo 2024’s three main events. Chiang says he hopes the exchange of experiences in urban governance will further market Taipei and strengthen its international relationships.

According to the Taipei City Government’s released itinerary, Chiang will also meet with Japan’s Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) Youth Division and members of the House of Representatives on May 15 to discuss exchange mechanisms between the LDP’s Youth Division and their city government’s youth bureau.

On May 16, Chiang will meet with Gov. Koike to discuss safety, sports, and future cooperation between the cities. Chiang will hold a breakfast meeting with the Japan-ROC Diet Members' Consultative Council the next day to thank the association for its support of Taiwan and express anticipation for fostering further exchanges with other Japanese cities.

Chiang also intends to make an appearance at the Taiwan Festival at Tokyo Skytreetown on May 18. The festival, which is the first-ever collaboration with Taipei’s Ningxia Night Market, aims to attract more international tourists to Taipei and marks the end of Chiang’s four-day visit.
