Taiwanese tourists traveling to the Czech Republic have increased by 75% during the first quarter of 2024. The direct flights between Taipei and Prague that launched July of last year are presumably the reason behind Taiwan ranking first in growth among all other nations. Prague Airport Chief Executive Officer Jiří Pos says the direct flights have revitalized their tourism industry.
China Airlines currently runs two direct flights from Taipei to Prague each week, making Prague the sixth European city to which China Airlines has a direct flight. The other European cities include Frankfurt, Amsterdam, London, Rome, and Vienna. China Airlines President Kao Shing-hwang (高星潢) says the company expects travelers connecting to and from Japan, South Korea, and Vietnam to have a strong interest in their Prague route. He says this will strengthen Taiwan as a hub and connect passengers throughout Asia.
According to a Czech financial report, 53% of tourists visiting the Czech Republic are domestic travelers, and 47% are foreign travelers. The report includes that most foreign tourists come from neighboring countries such as Germany (500,000), Slovakia (177,000), and Poland (143,000), with the largest number of long-distance travelers coming from the United States (64,000).
While the number of Taiwanese tourists traveling to the Czech Republic has increased significantly, the 37,000 first-quarter total is still much less than the 2019 total of 190,000.
