Several Chinese Coast Guard ships were expelled from restricted Kinmen waters on Tuesday morning. In a press release on Wednesday, Taiwanese Coast Guard Administration (CGA) Deputy Director Hsieh Ching-chin (謝慶欽) stated that from January to June this year, a total of 835 Chinese vessels have crossed over border lines.
Hsieh added that patrol personnel have boarded multiple ships for inspection and the CGA continues to monitor ocean activity, respond to disturbances, and enforce the law.
Regarding the recent intrusion into Kinmen waters, Defense Minister Wellington Koo (顧立雄) said that Taiwan’s CGA must establish new policies and procedures to protect boundaries. Koo elaborated that for non-military ships, the Taiwanese Navy will work jointly with the CGA to resolve problems, but if a military ship crosses the border, it will be handled in accordance with emergency regulations.
