A Canadian warship sailed through the Taiwan Strait on Wednesday according to a press release issued by Taiwan’s National Defense Ministry this Thursday morning.
According to foreign reports, Canadian Defense Minister Bill Blair said the action is a reaffirmation of Canada's commitment to a "free, open, and inclusive" Indo-Pacific, as part of the nation’s plan for the region announced in 2022.
Canada’s National Defense Department pointed out that the HMCS Montreal frigate had recently conducted a routine transit through the Taiwan Strait, but did not specify the exact time.
Taiwan’s National Defense Ministry says they had full control of the surrounding sea and airspace as the frigate transited north to south.
