Taiwan's men's doubles badminton team, Wang Chi-lin (王齊麟) and Lee Yang (李洋), secured the gold medal at the Paris Olympics after defeating China's Liang Weikeng (梁偉鏗) and Wang Chang (王昶) 2-1. President Lai Ching-te (賴清德) promptly called to congratulate them on their achievement.

Around 8 p.m. on Sunday, crowds gathered in the lobby of Taipei Main Station to watch a live broadcast of the badminton final. Spectators brought Taiwan Beer Gold Label, symbolizing their support for the team, and the venue buzzed with excitement. Deputy Premier Cheng Li-chun (鄭麗君) and Wang’s father were also in attendance.

After taking down the first game with a 21-17 win against China and swallowing a tight 18-21 second game, Wang and Lin regained the edge with the final game and comfortably bagged their second Olympic gold medal with 21-19.

Immediately after the victory, President Lai called Wang’s father to express gratitude for bringing national pride and to thank the Taiwanese people for their steadfast support. He highlighted that Wang and Lee have now won gold medals in both the Tokyo and Paris Olympics, praised their record-breaking performance, and celebrated them as the pride of the nation.
