The Taiwanese Representative Office in Lithuania signed its second memorandum of understanding (MOU) with the Lithuanian Central Project Management Agency (CPMA) on October 30 to provide an additional US$5 million in funding to facilitate reconstruction in Ukraine through the Lithuanian government.

Lithuania has helped implement four projects in Ukraine with Taiwan’s support through the Lithuanian Fund for Development and Humanitarian Aid so far, amounting to an investment of around US$5.28 million. In addition to school reconstruction in the Kyiv region that has already helped over 1,300 children return to school, CPMA Director Lidija Kašubienė said one rebuilt school in Borodyanka is the first to be equipped with an air-raid shelter capable of accommodating thousands of people thanks to Taiwan’s assistance.

Lithuania identifies three key areas in which it supports Ukraine’s recovery: educational infrastructure, training to assist with hazardous and explosive material handling, and veteran rehabilitation and reintegration. The CPMA detailed that the funds Taiwan provides will be dedicated to bolster efforts in such areas.

Taiwanese Representative Office in Lithuania head Constance Wang (王雪虹) said Taiwan firmly supports Ukraine’s recovery and reconstruction, and that this MOU serves to rebuild lives and strengthen communities.
