Former Taipei City Mayor and TPP Chairman Ko Wen-je (柯文哲) has been indicted on charges of bribery, profiteering, embezzlement, and breach of trust with prosecutors seeking more than 28 years imprisonment. The Taipei District Court began the trial at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, adjourned twice, and ended slightly after midnight on Friday, lasting nearly five hours. Ko, who had been detained for 113 days, will be released on bail of NT$30 million (over US$915,000).
The Taipei District Prosecutors Office investigations found that the former Taipei Mayor benefited from his consortium by tens of billions of dollars through bribes, embezzlement of political donations, and other illegal transactions.
In addition, the court also indicted Core Pacific Group Chairman Sheen Ching-Jing (沈慶京), Taipei City Councilor Angela Ying (應曉薇), former Taipei Deputy Mayor Pong Cheng-sheng (彭振聲), and Ko's campaign headquarters financial director Li Wen-tsung (李文宗) and six other people for corruption crimes. All eleven are restricted from moving residences, leaving the country, and contacting other defendants or witnesses.
