The legislature has passed a law amendment that requires companies to share their profits with employees.

The amendment to the Company Act was passed on Friday, the day Taiwan observes Labor Day. Kuomintang lawmaker, Lai Shyh-bao, commented on the amendment.

"This is a significant change," Lai said. "Employees work with company owners, and [the amendment] allows them to share in the fruits of their labor. This is a step forwards towards just distribution."
