President’s daughters return for grandmother’s funeral
Ma's daughters return to Taiwan

President Ma Ying-jeou's two daughters are back in Taiwan for the funeral of the president’s mother, Chin Hou-hsiu, who died of respiratory failure on Friday at the age of 91.

The president’s daughters, Lesley and Kelly Ma, who both live overseas, arrived at Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport in the early hours of Sunday morning.

Taipei Municipal Wan Fang Hospital, where the president’s mother was being treated, said that she died of complications from a lung tumor. President Ma and first lady Chow Mei-ching were by her side at the time of her death.

The hospital said the Ma family will not hold a public funeral ceremony or set up a mourning hall, as is customary in Taiwan. Media reports have said that instead, a private funeral service will be held with close family members in attendance.
