Taiwanese golf team leading U.S. at International Crown

Taiwanese golfer Yani Tseng and her three teammates gained an unexpected lead over the top-seeded U.S. team on the first day of the International Crown tournament on Thursday. The team from Taiwan was the only team in the eight-way contest to have scored the maximum four points for the day.

The International Crown is a biennial women’s professional team golf tournament on the LPGA Tour that made its debut this year in Maryland, USA.

Tseng buried a clutch 13-foot birdie putt at the final hole to help take down the No. 1 seeded US team. Taiwan’s team ranked 8th heading into the competition, so it was quite a shock that it was the only team to win both matches and lead into the second day of the International Crown.

The four golfers from Taiwan will face Thailand in the next round on Friday.
