When Taiwan first proposed the evacuation of its citizens, in the beginning, the Chinese government did not approve as they said evacuation happens only when a foreign country wants to evacuate its nationals and Taiwanese fall into the category of “Chinese” people, but the Chinese government eventually agreed to the evacuation on February 3 using only a Chinese airline company. Prof.Edward I-hsin Chen, a distinguished chair professor of political science department at Chinese Culture University explains the political game and the impact of COVID-19 on the Washington-Taipei-Beijing relations.
