When people say it is just a health issue, it is never just a health issue because it is always related to politics. When Taiwan first proposed the evacuation of its citizens, in the beginning, the Chinese government did not approve as they said evacuation happens only when a foreign country wants to evacuate its nationals and Taiwanese fall into the category of “Chinese” people, but the Chinese government eventually agreed to the evacuation on February 3 using only a Chinese airline company. Prof.Edward I-hsin Chen, a distinguished chair professor of political science department at Chinese Culture University explains the political game and the impact of COVID-19 on the Washington-Taipei-Beijing relations.
