Taiwan has maintained a close relationship with Somaliland despite the African country still being seen as part of Somalia by the rest of the world, culminating with the opening of a Taiwanese representative office in 2020. As the Horn of Africa grows in geopolitical importance, great powers including the United States are paying attention.
