Saint Vincent and the Grenadines gained its independence from the Great Britain in 1979 and has had diplomatic ties with Taiwan since 1981. Saint Vincent and the Grenadines is an island state in the Caribbean Sea and it has a chain of 32 islands with a population of 110,000. Taiwan and Saint Vincent have had close cooperation the areas of agriculture, health and medicine as well education. Currently, there are more than 100 students from Saint Vincent and the Grenadines studying in Taiwan. Saint Vincent and the Grenadines has openly supported Taiwan’s participation in the international organizations and in May this year, the minister of health and environment for the Caribbean Island group, Minister Robert Luke Browne said at the World Health Assembly in May that “the interests of Taiwan’s 23 million people should not be held ransom by political preferences”.
