Ku Huiman was born in Shanghai, China and is virtuoso pipa performer. She entered the Shanghai Conservatory at the age of nine where she was under the tutelage of a master musician, Wei Zhongle (1909-1997), who was a virtuoso of many instruments including pipa and dizi.
