Some 25 Taiwanese universities signed the Talloires Declaration on Friday at National Taiwan Norman University (NTNU) in Taipei. The agreement is a commitment to environmental sustainability in higher education.

NTNU President Chang Kuo-en said that the latest wave of universities to sign the declaration brings the total number of signatories in Taiwan to 48.

“Besides putting effort into cultivating hardware, talent, and our curriculum, we have also set up a green university promotion committee. The committee will check signatories’ progress every season,” Chang said.

As of July, a total of 472 universities in the world signed the declaration. Taiwan now has the third highest number of signatories in the world, behind the US and Brazil.
