Taiwan representative in talks with Indonesia on illegal Taiwanese fishing operations

Taiwan’s representative to Indonesia, Chang Liang-jen, is in talks with Indonesian authorities on how to resolve the issue of four Taiwanese fishing boats that have allegedly been involved in illegal fishing in Indonesian waters.

Indonesia’s Minster of Marine and Fishery Affairs, Susi Pudjiastuti, has urged Indonesia’ president to order the country’s navy to apprehend the intruding Taiwanese vessels.

Susi said that Taiwan’s government should warn fishermen against participating in illegal fishing.

Chang Liang-jen has said that Taiwan’s government has cautioned fishing vessels against fishing illegally in Indonesian waters. He said that representatives from Taiwan will talk with Indonesian government officials including Susi on ways to avoid similar incidents in the future.
