Prague Mayor Zdeněk Hřib says that he will visit Taiwan later this month. Hřib made the announcement on Wednesday.
He will be arriving on August 29 with a 90-member delegation led by President of the Czech Senate, Miloš Vystrčil. Hřib and Vystrčil are affiliated with two opposition parties that support Taiwan.
In a Facebook post, Hřib wrote, “I am honored that the President of the Senate, Miloš Vystrčil, invited me on his foreign trip to Taiwan.”
This will be Hřib 's second visit to Taiwan in less than 18 months in his capacity as mayor of Prague. Hřib said he will meet with representatives of “the partner city of Taipei”.
Prague terminated a sister city agreement with Beijing last year due to a dispute over a “one China policy” clause in its text. Prague has since established sister city ties with Taipei instead.
