Tsai pledges more government support for young parents

President Tsai Ing-wen says her administration will continue supporting young families. Her comments came during a visit to the Taiwan Women's Center.

Last month, the CIA estimated that Taiwan will have the lowest fertility rate in the world in 2021.

In an effort to raise Taiwan’s declining birth rate, the government has rolled out several incentives to encourage families to have more children. Tsai says that her administration’s goal is to foster young people’s willingness to get married and have children. She says the government will provide an environment where raising a family is a happy affair.

Tsai says her administration has raised sabbatical subsidies and child-rearing allowances to combat the declining birthrate.
