Taiwan’s government agencies are the target of over five million cyberattacks a day. That news came from the head of the Cabinet’s cybersecurity department, Chien Hung-wei, during a legislative report on Wednesday.
Chien says this figure only represents the information his department has identified and gathered so far. He says that, in reality, there could be more than five million cyberattacks a day targeted at Taiwan’s government bodies.
Chien says his department will adopt a policy of “proactive cyber defense,” which entails stopping any attempted breach the moment it begins. He says that by doing so, the government will push its defensive line forward when it comes to cyber security.
Chien says the biggest current threats to Taiwan’s cybersecurity are ransomware and malware attacks. He says these attacks are becoming more sophisticated and precise. He calls on the people to stay alert and not share any personal data on social media.
