Taiwan is hosting its annual gender equality week as an opportunity for women in the country to speak out and network with like-minded activists. Senior diplomat Constance Wang said on Thursday that this year’s events will include interactive activities related to women-led actions for climate justice.

Taiwan Gender Equality Week (TGEW) is held concurrently with the UN Commission on the Status of Women. The opening event of TGEW, titled “Women’s Power Night”, will take place on March 8 at 6:00 p.m. Wang says that President Tsai Ing-wen will lead as the first keynote speaker.

TGEW is also set to host the Climate Justice Leaders’ Seminar on March 15 in a virtual format. The seminar will feature female leaders from governments and NGOs in North and South America, Europe, and Asia. The event is geared towards encouraging women and girls to engage in climate decisions related to the economy, healthcare, and safety.

Wang says that it is important for citizens of the world to promote gender equality through events like TGEW. She says that Taiwan’s foreign affairs ministry is working hard to help meet international goals for gender equality and support NGOs who advocate for these objectives.
