Taiwan has donated US$150,000 to set up a kindergarten for Ukrainian refugee children in Slovakia. That was the word from Taiwan’s representative to Slovakia, Lee Nan-yang, on Monday.

The donation will go through a non-governmental organization called Ukrainian-Slovak Initiative. According to the UN, nearly 400,000 Ukrainian refugees have fled to Slovakia since Russia attacked on February 24.

Lee says that Taiwan has also struggled against authoritarian powers and sympathizes with Ukraine’s situation. He says that Taiwan will stand together with other democracies to support Ukraine.

Lee also arranged for Taiwan to donate US$60,000 to Ukraine’s Black Sea port of Odessa, which has been under Russian attack recently.

Ukrainian-Slovak Initiative leader Ľudmila Verbická says that Taiwan’s donation gives hope to all the parents and children who have fled Ukraine.
