Taiwan’s Olympic committee says it has complained to the Olympic Council of Asia after Chinese sporting authorities described Taiwan as part of China.

According to the Liberty Times newspaper, the organizers of the 2022 Asian Games in Hangzhou, China, list Taiwan as the largest of China’s islands. That comment appears in the English version of a handbook given to participating countries’ Olympic committees.

Taiwan takes part in the Asian Games under the name Chinese Taipei.

On Monday, the vice president of Taiwan’s Olympic committee said Taiwan complained about the handbook’s description in April. But he says the committee has not had any response.

Sources told the Liberty Times that the Olympic Council of Asia is unlikely to take action, because a senior Chinese sports official serves as the council’s honorary life vice-president.
