Nauru President Russ Kun has been ousted from office in a legislature vote of no confidence on Wednesday. The Foreign Ministry says it is paying close attention to subsequent developments and will maintain close cooperation with the new government.

In an official Facebook announcement, the Nauru government stated that the two new presidential candidates, Environmental Management and Agriculture Minister Rennier Gadabu and Finance and Justice Minister David Adeang, are tied at 9 votes each. A new vote will be held on Friday.

Kun just led a delegation to visit Taiwan from October 8 to 12. In addition to participating in a series of National Day celebration activities, he also attended the 7th Yushan Forum and delivered an opening speech.

The Foreign Ministry emphasized that Nauru remains one of Taiwan’s 13 diplomatic allies and the relationship between the two countries is stable and friendly. The Nauru government has firmly supported Taiwan's participation in the World Health Organization, United Nations, the U.N. Framework Convention on Climate Change, and other international organizations. The two island nations also cooperate closely in areas such as infrastructure, public health, climate change, clean energy, information and communications, agriculture and fisheries, education, and maritime patrol.
