KMT think tank identifies top 5 concerns of the public

The National Policy Foundation, a KMT think tank led by KMT Chairman Eric Chu (朱立倫), released a report on Friday compiling the public’s top five concerns. According to their collected data, over 90 percent of dissenting opinions expressed online are about the abolition of the death penalty. Other concerns include cross-strait relations, congressional reform, Internet fraud, and energy.

Chu said the public expects the new government to correct unconstitutional laws and bad policies. He stated that when President-elect Lai Ching-te (賴清德) takes office on May 20, he is obligated to respond clearly to these five concerns in his State of the Nation address.

Chu further pointed out that although the Legislature previously decided to freeze electricity prices, the Cabinet believes this action and the corresponding Electricity Act merit further review. Chu said both he and New Taipei City Mayor Hou Yu-ih (侯友宜) insist nuclear waste from the Jinshan Nuclear Power Plant should not be stored continuously in New Taipei City.

Regarding the year-end bonus the Interior Ministry issues to village heads, Chu said that the DPP should support an amendment to the law such that this payment is taken from both central and local government funds.
