Premier Chen Chien-jen (陳建仁 ) inspected the Miaoli offshore wind farm on Tuesday. Chen praised Taiwan for ranking first in offshore wind power development among Asian democratic countries. During the visit, Chen said that with determination, foresight, and proactive planning, the government can successfully promote wind power generation.

Chen says the Miaoli wind farm is the first demonstration wind farm in Taiwan and is soon to be followed by a second wind farm. The aim is to supply electricity to 380,000 households, progressing towards a target installation capacity of 15GW.

Acknowledging global trends towards carbon neutrality, Premier Chen says Taiwan must be prepared for upcoming challenges, including the European Union’s carbon tax set to be imposed in 2026. He also thanked wind energy companies for their efforts in promoting green energy development in Taiwan.

Chen says he is confident that under the leadership of President-elect Lai Ching-te (賴清德) and the incoming Premier Cho Jung-tai (卓榮泰) wind power generation will continue to improve, achieving the goal of net-zero carbon emissions by 2050.
