A survey released on Wednesday by the 104 Corporation, which runs the 104 Job Bank website, stated that if a stay-at-home mother collected a monthly salary, it would be NT$51,156 (US$1,575). According to the survey results, about 30 percent of respondents thought a hypothetical salary should fall between NT$35,000 (US$1,080) to NT$45,000 (US$1,390), while 12 percent thought it should be between NT$60,000 (US$1,850) and NT$80,000 (US$2,465).

The job search network Yes123 also conducted a survey targeting 1,258 female website members who were working mothers that explored several other relevant questions. The results indicated that the main reasons they became working mothers were to contribute to the family’s income, maintain financial independence, and avoid isolation from their community. However, as many as 94 percent reported finding a balance between their family and career difficult, with 85 percent having considered quitting their jobs to parent full-time.

The survey also found that a third of working mothers had left the workplace because they got married or given birth. On average, women stopped working for about 4.8 years after having children.
