South Korea to continue cooperation with Taiwan

South Korea’s foreign ministry said on Thursday that it is willing to continue cooperation with Taiwan under the One China policy. That’s in light of Taiwan’s new president Tsai Ing-wen taking office on Friday.

South Korea also expressed hopes for continued peace and stability in cross-strait relations.

According to South Korean media reports, president of the Korea-Taiwan Parliamentarian Friendship Association and Korean lawmaker Jo Gyeong Tae will be attending Tsai’s inauguration.

In 1992 South Korea severed relations with Taiwan in favor of ties with Beijing. Since then, South Korea has maintained unofficial ties with Taiwan under the One China policy.
